I am researching my great grandfather William Walsh.  He was born a Lahardane about 1 June 1848.

His father was Michael Walsh born in Aghagower about 1800 and died 1875  Michael married Mary Ryder  on 25 February 1843 in Castlebar RC church.  Mary was born 1822 and died 12 February 1900 in Cloonkeen.

Michael Walshes father was Thomas Walsh and his brother was Thomas Walsh Jr..  They were from Ballyballinaun.  Michael and Mary Walsh lived in Cloonkeen and farmed there.  They had 5 children.   William apparently emmigrated to the United States in 1855 and lived in San Francisco until his death in 1904.  William married Julia Judith Agnes Walsh in California in 1879.  Julia's parents were Patrick Walsh and Judith Mugan both  from Cloonkeen .  I believe William & Julia were distant cousins.  I would like to find out who Thomas Walsh Sr  married. and who William traveled with to the US in 1855.

  Thank you,   Colleen Walsh Holcomb,

I don't think we can find out the name of the wife of Thomas Sr.at least from church records. RC church records for parishes in Co. Mayo don't go back to 1800 and Aghagower records start in 1828.

I looked at the 1856 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing. There were many Walsh entries for Aghagower including Thomas Sr. and Jr. in Ballyballinaun. Thomas Sr. must have been quite old at that time if he had a son born in 1800.

Finally, There are likely no Irish records of who William traveled with in 1855. I would look at Ancestry or some other US source to see if you can find his ship coming into the US port.

Let me know if you have any questions.
