I am in search of information on the McHale/McGarry families.  Martin McHale and Catherine McGarry were born between 1820-1830.  Catherine's parents were Patrick McGarry and Ann McNulty (McNalty).  I have found a marriage record for Catherine's brother, Patrick McGarry, of Ballyknock to Bridget Garvan of Glenurla in 1872.

Martin and Catherine McHale had the following children that we know of:  Bridget, Mary, Catherine, John and Patrick.  There was one more child, possibly a girl named Ann.  I have found a marriage record for Mary McHale to Peter Jordan, both of Ballyknock, in Feb. 1872.  Witness was Mary's sister Catherine.

The McHale family, includng Martin and Catherine (but not Mary) immigrated to the US sometime between 1872 and 1874 when Bridget (my great, great grandmother) married in Pittston, PA.  

Any information on these families would be greatly appreciated.

  • I too am looking for McHales in Ballycastle. My great-great grandmother's maiden name was Bridget McHale. She was born around 1843 in County Mayo. She married Patrick Connell (probably between 1860 and 1865). They had their first child, Mary Connell, on 3 February 1866 in Ballycastle. After that they moved to England and settled in Leeds, Yorkshire, where they had more children, including my great grandmother, who appears to have lived her whole life in England. My grandmother moved to Canada in 1926.

    I do not know any more about the McHale line of my family than that at the moment -- not even Bridget's parents' names or exactly where she was born. So any suggestions on how to take my search further would be greatly appreciated. Thank-you.
