Hello, I am a direct decendant of Peter Fitzmaurice (Born 1838) and his wifre Magaret McGarry from Ballyhaunis. I believe he ran a store at one time on Bridge St.   We live in the US and are coming to Ballyhaunis for the first time on May 4th through May 6th.  Is there any Town records or library I can visit in Ballyhaunis to gain any information or records on my families history. ? Also is their anyone in the town who may be a relative from the Fitmaurice/McGarry LIne?  I also Know that Peter's daughter Cecelia was married to a Browne and stayed in the area. I am hoping maybe we could connect with the Browne family as well. The picture I am showing is my grandmother Catherine and two of her sisters ( children of Peter and Margaret). I believe the photo may have been taken in Chicago where they first lived in the US.

We do not have a parish liaison for the Ballyhaunis area. A lot of information can be found online either on free sites or subscription sites. I located a transcription of the 1870 civil marriage record for Peter and Margaret. The record shows where Peter and Margaret lived and the names of their fathers. It appears they had 13 children Peter 1871 James 1872 Mary 1874 Ellen 1876 Andrew 1878 Cecelia 1881 Michael 1882 Catherine 1884 John 1886 Honoria 1889 Bridget 1891 Margaret 1893 Anne 1896 Two of the children were deceased by 1911. Also below are the 1901 and 1911 census reocrds for the family. I also located the 1923 civil death record for Peter. You will have to sign-in to see the record. I looked for a Margaret death record with no success. Do you know her year of death. I can also get the civil birth records of the children if you are interested. Have a great trip!

Also, we have an XO Chronicles site where you can add the stories of ancestors who emigrated

Lastly, I will look for possible phone numbers for any Browne's in the area.

Here is the link to the online phone book  https://www.eirphonebook.ie/  We don't give out personal info directly. There are a lot of Brownes in Mayo. None in Ballyhaunis that I can see. Four or five in the nearby town of Claremorris. Make sure you use the Residential TAB.

Thank you so much for all of this information.  The death info on Margaret McGarry Fitzmaurice that I have is as  Follows:

14 May, 1942 Sregg, Ballybaunis, Mayo.  I would like to find her grave site and Peter's as well.  I am hoping the librarian may be able to help me.
