Seeking information regarding Mathias Radey (Ready) and Nora Flannery. Church records in Canada indicate that they hailed from Kilmeena, Mayo. Mathias, Nora, and their three sons; Bernard, Michael, and Thomas emigrated from Ireland in the mid-late 1840s (not necessarily at the same time). Approximate birth dates for the family are as follows: Mathias Radey,1791; Nora Flannery Radey, 1806; Bernard Radey, 1831; Michael Radey, 1832; Thomas Radey, 1834.

Any help locating records for this family would be greatly appreciated.

    Maureen:

The RC records for Kilmeena parish do not start until 1858 after your family left Ireland. i checked the Tithes listings and did not see any Radey or Ready records. www.titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie

I also checked the 1856 griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Co. Mayo. There were no Radey entries in Kilmeena parish but there were two Raeday entries. There was a David in Derrynaraw townland and another David in Drumminabo townland. It is possible that both entries are the same person who had two land holdings. Don't know if there is a connection to Mathias but I wanted to make you aware of the records.

I also checked the 1901 census and there was a Patrick Ready household in Derrynaraw townland. One of the sons was a David. I assume Patrick was the son of David in the Griffiths.See link above.

  • I am trying to look into my ancestry also.    I go back to a David READY in Mayo, Ireland in the parish of Kilmeena.  I am trying to find out who his parents were. He was my great great grandfather.  I have all the other info but just trying to see if I can go back a bit further but want to know his father and mothers name.  I thought they might be James Ready born in 1802.  When you find information it gets a bit mind boggling.  My great great grandfather David came from Derrynaraw.  He came to Scranton, Pennsylvania in 1821.  Hard to find info around this era.  Not sure if you will get this but I am posting it anyways.
