Hello

I am researching my family, who are the McTaggarts/McTeggart, I have found details of my grandfather Peter McTeggart, who lived in Lisenover( sorry if my spelling is wrong), DarryCasson. He was born in 1887 and died in 1977 in DarryCasson, he married Mary Jane Gilroy(1888-1924) in 1910, I think she died in Kilnavart, Caven.

Any information on their parents and ancestors would be especially welcome

Very difficult to find records for your family.

Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie  has an 1888 baptismal record for a Peter McTeggart in the Templeport RC records. Templeport was their parish in 1901 and 1911. Roots is a pay site to view the transcription of the church record which should show the names of his parents.

Could not locate Peter's civil birth record or marriage record. I did find the 1901 census record for Mary Jane and Peter. I did find the 1924 civil death record for Mary Jane.

  • Hi Roger, thanks for your reply, as with all of these things, more questions have now come up!

I have since found out that Peter's father was called William (1877-1898) and he married Mary ? (1871-1906) if this is any help.

Mary Jane died in 1924, however Peter (Widower) had 3 more children from 1925 onwards, Philip in 1925, then Francis, then Bridget, it appears that he got remarried, would there be any record of this?

I noticed that on the 1901 census the surname is Taggart, Peter appears to heve added the "Mc" to it later on, any ideas why?

Last but I am sure not least, Mary Gilroy is the neice of Thomas& Mary McGovern are there any records of their anscestors to assist wth Mary Gilroys parents?

Great job you are doing, it has really padded out the family history, thanks from the present day taggart clan!

  • Hello Roger

I have just spoken to my aunt Bridget ( who is on holiday in Lisanover as we speak!) she corrected me and said her mother MaryJane  died on 12/04/1933, not 1924, however she does have a mass card for a Mary Jane who died in 1924 and was always wondering who she was.

I am also told that Mary Jane's(d1933) mother was Anne McGovern, not sure of husband Gilroy's first name.

Any further records that you have would still be very welcome
