Hello I am looking for birth record of my great grandad Anthony McGinty born around

1841.I can find his marriage record to Honor Costello in 1890 in parish of Kilmoremoy,

Ballina and can find him in the 1901 census still living in Bohernasop Ballina.  It states he

is from Kilmore, dont know if this is short for kilmoremoy or from another place in

Mayo.  He is down for speaking  english and Irish, so I am thinking he is from further

west than Ballina as lots of my other relatives in Ballina are certainly only showing up

as english speaking.  His father and mothers names are DANIEL MCGINTY AND

ELEANOR DEVANEY....but I have looked at everything I can think of and did a

quick search for him when there in 2010.  Does anyone know anything from their

own families ancestory if looking for the same names.

Thanks would love some clue to this mystery or can only assume he was not

registered and was a young lad during the famine.

Thank you

  • Dear Tina

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out and apologies for the delay in replying to your message.

As you can see from the link below, Kilmoremoy is a Civil Parish in Co. Mayo:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/townlands/index.cfm?fuseaction=TownlandsInCivil&civilparishid=1777&civilparish=Kilmoremoy&citycounty=Mayo

Records for the Roman Catholic Parish of Kilmoremoy exist for the 1793 to 1874 for baptisms with some gaps until they restart. This may be why you cannot find a baptism record: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/index.cfm?fuseaction=showidrecords&CityCounty=Mayo&parish=Kilmoremoy&churchid=753

There are two ?Kilmore? townlands in Co. Mayo, both near Swinford, so in your case Kilmore is probably Kilmoremoy. If as you say, you have tried the parish records available online, without success, you could try checking the Tithe Appllotment Books 1823-1837 for mention of Anthony?s father in that parish: http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp

    The Tithes only mention the Head of Household but it is still useful information. The other source that is available is the records of the Encumbered Estates retained in the National Archives, Dublin. Unfortunately, they are not available online but you could contact the Duty Archivist. You may have to consider having a researcher look at these for you, depending on the advice of the Archivist: http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/introduction-to-genealogy/&nb…;

Find My Past could also be useful to you: http://www.findmypast.ie/articles/world-records/full-list-of-the-irish-family-history-records/census-land-and-substitutes/landed-estates-court-rentals-1850-1885

Remember to post any new information that you find here. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Best of luck with your search

  • HI there,
Looking for some help in finding information on the above lady Margaret (Peggy) Connors. She lived in Ardagh. Crossmolina. Her D.O.B. is ( 1838-1867 )

She married Thomas Lynott ( 1838-1913) from Scullibeen,Crossmolina.Margaret was his first wife.
As far as I know she had 4 children.

Brigida - Do not know anything about her

Patrick - (1861-1911) He emigrated to Pa.USA.He married a lady called Mary Gallagher, they had children. He died in a mine explosion at the age of 50.They lived in Scranton, Pa.USA.

Maria(Mary Lynott)(1865-1915)Emigrated to Pa.USA,married a Michael Carr(1858-1954)They both are buried beside her half brother Luke in Scranton,Pa.

Thomas Lynott (1867-1867) He died at birth.

Margarets husband married again.A lady called Ann Reddington. From Friarstown,Knockmore. They had 1 son,Luke,he emigrated to USA at the age of 16.Ann died 25 days after Luke was born.

Thomas married for 3rd time.A lady called Bridget Dunleavy from Derah,Crossmolina. They had 11 children.Four stayed in Ireland,Four went to USA, and 3 died.

    So basically,
    (1)
I cannot find Margaret Lynotts Birth,or Marriage Certs, they are not in Castlebar registry office. And I cannot find it on line either.I also cannot find out where she is buried. As her husband Thomas is buried with his 3rd. wife in Kilmurray graveyard. She may be buried with her parents, but do not know what graveyard they may be in. I feel if I got those,I would find our her parents names, and where they lived, and than be able to figure out the graveyard they would be in!!!!
    (2)
Than Ann Reddington,I cannot find her place of buriel either, she may be buried with her parents as well.

I'm hoping someone may know of this family.
I decided to give the data,on Thomas's other wives,as it helps fill the picture, and might ring a bell for someone,if they have any of these people in their family tree.

    Hoping I hear from someone!
    Yours sincerely, Mary Lynott Kilcullen
