  • Dear  creecyhistory

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Congratulations, you seem to have done a lot of research with some success in finding out about your Mayo ancestors already!

As you can see from the link below, Kilmoremoy is a Civil Parish in Co. Mayo:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/townlands/index.cfm?fuseaction=TownlandsInCivil&civilparishid=1777&civilparish=Kilmoremoy&citycounty=Mayo

Records for the corresponding Roman Catholic Parish of Ballina begin in 1823. There are some missing dates however, for baptisms from 1836 to May 1849 and from July 1849 to July 1857; for marriages from October 1842 to October 1850. This is why you have been unable to find the details of the marriage and baptism of Felix's parents. As civil registration doesn?t begin until 1864, before this time we are dependent on church parish records. It seems that Felix?s parents were born and married at a time that predates the parish records.

There are 8 O?Hara entries listed in Griffith?s Valuation (1847-1864):

    http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=doNameSearch&Submit.x=38&Submit.y=10&Submit=Submit&familyname=O%27Hara&firstname=First+Name&baronyname=&countyname=MAYO&unionname=&parishname=KILMOREMOY

Have you tried searching Ancestry.com for any mention of your ancestor?s name in member family trees or messages?

Remember to post any new information that you find here. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Best of luck with your search

  • Hi Clare, I wonder if you could re-post the link to the 8 families in the Griffith's valuation? The link does not seem to work, and I am thinking one of those families could be my O'Hara family (not the same family as Felix, posted here).

Thanks so much for all your contributions to this website!
