Looking for any information on the above, my great grandparents. Their son Thomas moved to Scotland and married my grandmother Rachel Scott Telford in West Lothian 1937. I understand Thomas was a guardsman in the Irish Guards and was survived the Great War 1914-18. His service number may have been 5394.

When researching your family history and using forums such as this one, the more information that you give the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Information that would greatly help in the search for your great gand parents would be rough dates of births, marriage etc. Also of importance is their religion as this will help you discern what Church Record you need to be looking at.
Based on the information you have given I can offer the following help.
The Irishtimes website is a very valuable source of information for those researching their family history. Here is a link to the website which offers information on Co. Mayo, which is where Ballina is found.

This website also shows what Roman Catholic Records are available for the parish of Ballina/Kilmoremoy. This information can be found here:
If, however, the family followed the Church of Ireland the parish registers can be found at

Also the Irish Census Records should have some information for you. These date to 1901 and 1911 and may have information on your great grandparents dates of birth etc. The link for these are here:

With regards to your grandfather, Thomas, you may find information on him and his service record under the Royal Irish Constabulary section of the UK National Archives as this is what the Irish policeforce was called in the the early 20th century.
