I am looking for any information on the Major family from Mayo. I found some information that they could possibly from Balla, Belcarra Drum and Minulla....in the diosesse of Tuam .. My Great great grandfather George Major born 1809 came to Canada with his wife Honora ( maiden name also Major ) and son John around 1842. I can not find any information from before they came to Canada ,so any help would be great.

Balla Parish also covers Belcarra, Manulla and Drum etc. I will see what I can find for you and get back to you as soon as possible, It will be next week however, as the Parish will be preparing for the New Year. Is there any specific information you would like me to find for you?

That you Kathryn for your reply... I am looking for any information regarding my family for I can not find any info on they before they came to Canada. This is what I do know ... George Major my great great grandfather was born 1809 in Mayo Ireland (Belacarra I think). His wife Honora born 1816 was also a Major ( her father John Major ,,mother Mary O'Rourke ) all from Mayo. I believe George and Honora came to Canada late 1840's early 1850's. Their oldest son John born 1837 was baptized in the parish of Tuam. They did have other children but I am not sure if they were born in Ireland or here in Canada.
I am looking for any thing on this family that will give me leads to finding out more information . Do I still have family there , what was their lives like in that area at that time. Did George have brothers or sisters,,etc Anything would be wonderful.
