Hello!  I am researching my g-grandfather, Patrick Conlan, who was born in Ireland in 1844.  Thanks to irelandxo, I think the family likely was in Moyrath, Kildalkey, Co. Meath.  The names, birth order & dates fit with what I know of the family in the USA.  Here is the information so far:

John Conlon/Conlan/Conlin (bap 11 Jun 1814 Kildalkey, parents James Conlon & Anne Muggin)

 Married (6 Jun 1838 in Kildalkey) Rose Guehan/Gaghagan/Gagan (b abt 1817)

     Children born in Moyrath:  James (b 1839), Thomas (b 1840), Anne (b 1842), Pat (b 1844), Margaret (b 1846), John (b 1848)

Probably born in US:  Mary (b 1853)

I am looking for information on James Conlon and Anne Muggin.  I have found a burial records for James Connollan of Moyrath for 6 May 1839 and for Anne Conlon of Moyrath for 25 Jan 1837.  Any suggestions on where I might look for birth or marriage records for them?

I am also looking for any other records Rose Guehan/Gaghagan/Gagan.  She died in Uxbridge, MA in 1878 and her death record lists parents as Jas & Margt Gaghon.  The 1817 birthdate is estimated based on the stated age on her death record.

Thank you in advance for any clues or information you might provide.

Kind regards,

Colette Dillon Waldron

  • Hello again Colleen!

If you have not done so already, can I suggest you get either a one day or one month subscription to Roots Ireland. www.rootsireland.ie  Co. Meath is one of the best counties to search for church records because many of the parishes go back to the late 1700s. I saw  1786 and 1787 baptismal records for a James Conelan/Connolan not in Kildalkey but in other parishes. The Kildalkey records on Roots go back to 1782 although for some reason the parish register is not available online at the NLI site.

Let me know if you have questions.

  • Hello Roger,

Thank you again for your help.  Yes, I did subscribe to Roots Ireland and found the children's records.  The names and dates fit what I know of the family.  I also saw James Conelan's 1786 record for Clonmellon and James Connolan's 1787 record for Rathkenny.  Either one could be a possibility.  I have had no luck locating Anne Muggin or Rose Geoghegan/Gaghon, but I am still searching.
