Hi, My great great grandfather, John Martin (Birth 15 April 1826) came from County Meath Ireland.  He went to the United States and married a young woman called Hanora Ryan.  Hanora was born in New York in 1839, and died in or around 1889. They eventually ended up in Green Isle, Minnesota. He died in 1914. John's father was Thomas Martin and his mother was a "Miss Duffy", both born in Ireland, but I don't know where.

We also have family links to County Mayo.  Michael Mulligan, born around 1816-1825, County Mayo. He died 21 August 1900 in Green Isle, Minnesota, USA. His wife was Mary Dillon, also born in Ireland in around May 1829, and she died in Minnesota in 1897.  They lived for a while in West Virginia, where their first child James was born.  Four more children were born in Minnesota: Martha (or Matilda), Sarah, Kate and John.

I have no further information. Can anyone there help?

Thanks, Lynn Martin Corcoran

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not find a baptismal record for a John Martin with father Thomas and a mother with surname Duffy. There are fifteen RC parishes in Co. Meath that have baptismal records which start later than 1826 so likely John was baptized in one of thos parishes.

You may want to add John's story to our XO Chronicles site and possibly someone will see a connection.

Have you had your DNA tested?

  • Good morning from New York.   We have a g-g-grandmother, Julia Martin who passed in 1883.  Death certificate age states she was probably born around 1828 in Ireland (not sure where/not sure when she immigrated or where she entered USA).  Is Julia a name in your Martin family?  Have not been able to get more information about this Julia......who married a John Lynch (another wild card in the search)!                                        Thanks!         Ann Marie Lynch
