I am looking for any information Mary Briody born 1829 in Ireland.

My 3rd Great grand mother Mary Briody born 1829 Ireland and Died 1893 Bristal PA. She married Thomas L Hudson and had 5 children. The only thing listed is she was born in Ireland 1829 but not who her parents were so this is just a lead I am looking into.

I am not sure when/how/what ship Mary (1829) was on or came to America. I am not sure where she met Thomas Hudson but they are listed in US 1860 Census in Brooklyn NY. They may have come over 1845 on the Tarolinta from Liverpool.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

There is no way to connect the 1829 record with your ancestor Mary Briody without other corrobarating evidence. Have you located the 1893 death record for Mary? Not sure if Pennsylvania death records showed the parents names in 1893. I know later records had parents names.

Have you considered autosomal DNA testing where you might match others with Briody/Brady connections who have more info on the family in Ireland.

  • I have done DNA testing, not sure how to connect to any Briodys as I haven't met any yet. I haven't been able to locate a family surname group/page online either.
I would have to actual go to PN in person to get her death certificate and I'm far away. I have found one deach cert that may be hers and it did not mention any family names.

Looks like PN did not standardize the death records until 1906. Prior to that it was up to the county. I forget if Bristol is in Philadelphia or possibly Montogomery county. (I grew up in Philadelphia).

Don't know what DNA company you tested. I tested with Ancestry and Family Tree. I e-mail my top matches and keep an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of whether the match was maternal, paternal, which chromosomes. Not every match responds but I've been able to break down some brick walls for my lines and also my wife's lines. My wife got a new match over the weekend and I e-mailed the person who was in Ireland and he told us which county her Murphys were from and we expect more detailed info. It takes a lot of work and patience but there are goof results eventually.

  • I also did it with Ancestry and uploaded it to My Heritage, GEDMATCH, and find my past. I haven't had any luck with this side but have had luck on my mom's meeting cousins. An excel spreadsheet is an awesome idea! I've just been making notes on each person's profile under the match but I will definitely take you up on that idea!

  • So I have been able to exclude the Briodys from the Westmeath/Forbush line by comparing their DNA results. Are there Briodys from other line that could also share their DNA results?
