I am looking for information on  my 2nd great grandfather, Patrick Maguire( born about 1819-1822) and a possible brother, Philip Maguire( born about 1826-1830). They both emmigrated from Ireland to the United States  between 1845-1860. They both lived and died in Lawrence,Massachusetts. Patrick died in 1904 and his death certificate lists parents as Patrick Maguire and Rose O'Toole. Philip died in 1914 and his death certificate lists John Maguire and Rose Towle as parents. Philip was in the Civil War in the United States and had to reapply several times for pension benefits. He listed his place of birth differently on each application- County Meath, County Westmeath, Westmeath, and finally Oldcastle. They may have had a sister Roseanne or Roseanna. I have no proof that they are related but through an Ancestry DNA test I was matched with a relative of Philip's. She is quite sure they were brothers. Their possible mother, Rose O'Toole/Towle Maguire may also have emmigrated.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi

    Thank you for your message.

Do you know much about their emigration? The dates, the reason why they left, who they may have travelled with?..etc..Generally more information was given at the port of arrival rather than the port of departure. If you knew which city they arrived at (e.g. Liverpool, New York, etc.), this could be a good place to find more information. -And perhaps even find out an exact place of origin.

Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

    Kind regards,
