Hello!  I'm searching for more info on James & Margaret Murray of Crover, Aghabog, Co. Monaghan.  Griffith's Valuation literally has them in the Aghabog Church's backyard, plots 5c, 6a & b as well as nearby plot 7 (landlord Thomas Coote).

  • James b. 1799 and d. 1887
  • Margaret b. 1818 and d. 1893; her maiden name may have been Donohoe
  • James and Margaret had a son, John b. 1845 who emigrated to Boston, Massachusetts, USA in 1864.

Any additional information would be greatly appreciated!

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

    RC parish records for Killeevan, Aghabog and Newbliss begin in 1872. As this is the case, there will be no records for anyone baptised or married in this parish prior to this date, except for 1841-1842 where a small number of baptisms exist. Later records are available online at rootsireland.ie

    One way to suss out who stayed on the plots you mentioned is to follow the Griffith's Valuation record up to the 1970s and 1980s through the Valuation Office where they keep the Cancelled or Revision Books. Unfortunately they are only starting to put these records online but you can contact the Office here: http://www.valoff.ie/en/Archives_Genealogy_Public_Office/
