    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Do you know what Joseph's mother's name was or their religion?

There is a marriage record on rootsireland.ie for a John Webster in the parish of Crossduff (Aughnamullen) who married a Jane Heaning from Shantonagh, Aughnamullen on 14-Jun-1850. You can see from the link below where this parish is in Co. Monaghan:

According to this marriage record, both John and Jane were servants. I haven't been able to find any baptism records for children born to this couple. I assume that they were Church of Ireland. There is an Allen Webster from the above name townland mentioned on the 1901 Census:

    http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Monaghan/Anny/Aghnamul…

There is also a John Webster listed on the Griffith's Valuation in the Parish of Clones in 1860:

Perhaps this is the wrong family, you will have more insight on that - do you think we are on the right track?

  •  Dear Clare, many thanks for your help however I have had some more info with regards to John Webster. He  signed The Ulster Covenant in a place called Anchagan Scotstown, he may have been married to an Isabella, who also signed the covenant at a place called Aughagan maybe these two places are the same. He  ( John ) is named on my Great Grandfathers marriage cert as father and Farmer this was 1877. Some time later two of my Grandfathers sisters left Belfast for New York about 1905 and I have documents completed by the sisters stating that their father was born in Monaghan . Hope you can help.

  • Hi Billy

Unfortunately I couldn't find a baptism for a Joseph Webster anywhere in Ireland in 1855 (+/- 5 years) nor any children born to a father John Webster in Monaghan. The only marriage for a John Webster is the one I refer to above and I couldn't find any marriage for Joseph in Monaghan between 1870 and 1890. It may be that the records have not survived.

If his sisters passed through Ellis Island, New York you can search the passenger lists here:

    http://www.libertyellisfoundation.org/

I see that there are only 3 entries recorded for Websters in the Tithe Applotment Books for 1829-1830:

The link below is the only other detail I can find about the Webster though perhaps I am directing you back to your own website!
