Ireland Reaching Out - www.irelandxo.comWent to Aghabog. Met a very nice woman named Peggy Gavan who directed me to a church for the Aghabog parish. Found many Gavan stones, but no Gavin. Peggy said Gavan/Gavin/Gaven all same thing. Also said her husband also said Gavins came to Monaghan from Mayo. Any connections?

Question is, this is the church I went to. Not the same one as in your picture. Is there another? And if so, does anyone know if there is a Joseph and Bridget Gavin buried there?

thanks

Nancy

ps. won't let me add image. Will try again later

  • Dear Nancy

I apologise for the poor response to date, your post must have been mistakenly overlooked (which is a poor excuse). I relation to the photo, I am not sure it is the Church in Aghabog, as far as I recall the Aghabog church has a bell tower.

Do you have any further info about the Gavin connection to Co. Mayo ? names and/or dates to focus the search? We don?t have a volunteer in Aghabog yet, but I might be able to assist on the Mayo side of things.

    Best wishes
