My great grandmother was born Bridget Clerkin, baptized 21 February 1876 in the parish of Tedavnet. Her parents were John and Catherine Clerkin. She emmigrated to NYC around 1900 where she married Patrick O'Connor, possibly of Co. Kerry. They had 2 daughters and 3 sons who lived to adulthood. Bridget died 15 October 1938 at age 62. Her daughter Mary kept a written correspondence, now lost, with relatives in Ireland, perhaps those in the Tedavnet area. If there is any information on the Clerkins of Tedavnet around or before the turn of the century, or even some living their now, I would love to know and it would be greatly appreciated.

If you obtain a copy of Bridget?s birth certificate it should give you her mother?s maiden name as well as the townland where she was born. That in turn should enable you to search for the parents marriage and possibly identify the location of their home in Griffiths valuation or the subsequent revision records.
Tedavnet is in the civil registration area of Monaghan town. There was only 1 Bridget Clerkin registered there in 1876 (Monaghan Town 1876 Vol 3, page 313). You can order a photocopy of that from GRO Roscommon for ?4.
