Hello, I am searching the Briscoe family of Birr, Offaly. Or Kings?

William Briscoe, born 1801 and Ellen Thompson 1801-1875 they had a daughter my 3rd x great grandmother she is Anne Briscoe born 1842, I have this information from her wedding certificate in 1861, 28th of April, she was just 19 years old. She died in Melbourne 1865.

How can I search for this family? There is nothing on ancestry.com

Thank you for giving me the chance to ask my question.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Anne was actually born in 1839. Below is the transcription of her baptismal record from Roots Ireland. I was not able to find any siblings. However, the Birr RC records start in 1838 so records for possible older siblings would not be available. Here is the link to the parish register. http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0763

The family lived on Spinners Lane in Birr.

  • Thank you Roger, this means a lot to me. And I'm glad she was older. Once again I can only go on what is on the certificate. She Married William Sullivan, one certificate it says she was from Kings, the other says she is from Birr, I googled it and I think it's the same place.

They had 2 sons and she sadly died when they were babies.

Thank you so much for the history of this family. Regards Elizabeth

Birr is a large town in Co. Offaly. Prior to 1922, Co. Offaly was known as Kings Co.

  • Ok, Knigs Co is on her marriage certificate and Birr Offaly is on her death.

She has written or witnessed  her marriage certificate, of course her husband has written her death certificate.

I am so grateful you have found them. Thank you

Would her parents deaths be in that church I have Ellen Thompson dead in 1875. And I found an 1821 census where she was a maid. Walcott place?

If the parents stayed in Birr, she would have likely been buried from the Birr RC church. However, the church does not have death records. I did locate a civil death index record for an Ellen Briscoe in 1875 in the correct registration district. You can get a copy of this record from the General Register Office for around 4 euros. If you want a copy, let me know and I will forward instructions.

  • Gee wiz! Thank you Roger, that would be fantastic. So there is nothing on William? I am so happy to be talking about this little family, they will never be forgotten. Because of Anne Briscoe there are a100 or more living people in and all over Australia.

    Isn't this marvellous

Nothing on William so he likely died before 1864 when civil registration started.

To get a copy of the death record, go to this link https://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx  and print out the death form (link is in the middle of the page).

Fill out the form to the best of your ability include the info from the index record: registration district, volume an dpage number.Make sure you only ask for a copy which costs around 4 euros. You have to mail the request (address is provided when you print the form). You can ask GRO to e-mail the copy back to you. I provide a credit card number and have never had any issues.
