Hello,

I'm trying to trace my ancestor George Frazer b. ~1796 in unknown, Ireland --first shown in 1860 census living in Pennsylvania.

The only records for a George I could find are awfully close-- George Fraser b. 3.2.1798 in Co Offaly. to Robert Fraser and Jane.

Marriage records show Robert Fraser and Jane Trench getting married in Birr Jan 1794.

The timeline looks right--but its a fairly common name in a big country, what else can I do to confirm?

Thanks!

  • Dear Greerpalmer:

Many thanks for your post to the Ireland Reaching Out message board and welcome to the site.

We have several volunteers in the Birr area who may be able to assist you with your query.

In the meantime, I note that your records are from the Roots Ireland database and the George that you have noted sounds like a very good possibility even with the date of birth being different by 2 years which is not uncommon.  Many times, people were not fully accurate with their dates of birth (particularly years).

I will pass on this post to our volunteers and you should hear from them within two weeks.  If you do not hear by that time, please email me at:  jhalloranryan@irelandxo.com and I will follow it up for you.

You might also be interested in taking a look at our XO Chronicles and even creating one for George Fraser.  It is very easy to do and the Chronicles are a great way to collaborate and share information with other members who may also be researching the same families.  You can create a profile by following the link below:

You don't need to have a photo and you can share as much or as little information as you like.  Please contact me if you have any difficulty with same.

Thank you for your interest in Ireland Reaching Out!

    Kind regards,

    Jane.
