I am trying to find any information about these two Mooney's. From the 1841 Census in Liverpool Peter Mooney came from Ireland and on the following 1851 / 61 Census he came from Liverpool. On his first marriage in 1834 his father was not mentioned. However, on his second marriage the name of Felix was mentioned. I also found that his first son was called Phelix born 1842 in Liverpool although he died young. Peter had 3 children that survived and I have found the Mooney  links back to me. They were both Smiths/Blacksmiths although Peter in 1861 had changed his trade to that of a Merchant Sailor. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Hi Gaffa,

Could you please tell me what the connection to Offaly is?

Clearly the fact that he is mentioned as coming from Liverpool in the 1851/61 census shows us that he was living in th area at that time.

It is also very telling that his son was named 'Phelix' (possibly incorrectly taken down at one time).

Were they blacksmiths in Ireland or Liverpool? Was Peter in the Merchant Navy in Liverpool or another city?

Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Sinead,

I dont know if there is any connection to Offlay. I am still researching my Mooney Family tree and I am grasping at any straws that I can find. This 'MOONE' link came to me by way of the online Irish Heritage Site. Can you tell me anything about 'the 'Moone' parish and if you know any information about a Felix Mooney born about 1770  with 3 sons called Daniel b 1806, Peter b1809 and Patrick b1820 - 3 of them had the trade of the black smith, Daniel was a Plasterer. The trades were listed on the Liverpool Census, so I reckon they were already of that trade, before coming to Liverpool. Wether the original intention was to work the passage money to America I dont know, but they stayed in Liverpool.

    Regards
