My G-G-Grandfather came from County Offaly. He was a Roman Catholic who emmigrated to the U.S. in 1850 & settled in Cincinnati Ohio. His mother's name was Mary Flannagan (also from Offaly).  I have not been able to determine his exact parish of origin. I am looking for any information on Burkes from County Offaly.  I plan to visit the county in 2013 for "The Gathering".

  • Hi Timothy,

Do you know much about your G-G-Grandfather's emigration? Dates, the reason why the left, people he may have travelled with etc.? Generally more information was given at the port of arrival rather than the port of departure. If you knew which city they arrived at (e.g. Liverpool), this could be a good place to find more information, and perhaps even find out an exact place of origin.

Have you checked any of these sites for information? https://familysearch.org/   http://www.castlegarden.org/ http://www.archives.gov/research/immigration/passenger-arrival.html

You could try posting as much information as you can regarding your relatives. Remember the more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to assist you.

I wish you the best of luck with your search.
