Looking for members of the family Dufficy. Not sure which Parish they originated from. Can anyone help. The Dufficy family emigrated to Australia. Some to the south cost of NSW and then to northern NSW

  • Hi Nerida,

Do you have access to ancestry? Your local family history centre or library should have it.

There are quite a few Dufficy public member trees on ancestry which look like they have what you are asking about.

Here are the most likely with birth years and places of marriage:

Patrick 1860 (Sydney) James (Lismore) 1861 Maurice (Alstonville) 1868 Edward (Ballina) 1873 & Martin 1879 (Ballina) all born in Roscommon are the earliest records in the tree.

If you can have a look and find which tree is yours I / you can look for the birth record in Roscommon on www.rootsireland.ie/

If you can't get access but think you know which of the above is your ancestor I can send the page to an email address.

I went to Teachers College many years ago with Tony Dufficy who is descended from the Lismore lot but he lives in Canada now.

  • The Dufficy family mainly came from Ogulla and surrounding towns.
My line came initially from Clooneigh and then Carrowgarve.
James, Maurice, Martin and Edward (all brothers) came to Australia and settled in the Richmond River area of NSW. Another brother Michael went to Western Australia and a couple to the USA. Honoria stayed in Ireland.
My G Grandfather Patrick settled in Sydney with a brother and sister Jeremiah and Sarah settling in Townsville / Cookstown, Queensland.
