  • Hi,

    Thank you for your message.

Given the early date of birth that you have mentioned the best place to look is in church records in Boyle parish. Although, you should be aware that it can sometimes be difficult to get church records pertaining to births, marriages and deaths in Ireland prior to 1800, in particular CAtholic records.

Fortunately, Catholic records for Boyle have a startdate of c. 1792, so hopefully you will be able to find some records relating to Patrick whether it be a birth record, marriage record or birth records for his children. You can see what records are available on the Irish Times website, it also tells you where there are copies of the records to be found:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/index.cfm?fuseaction=showidrecords&CityCounty=Roscommon&parish=Boyle&churchid=548

You can see from the link that the Roscommon Heritage and Genealogy Centre have copies. If you would like to contact them here is their email:info@roscommonroots.com Please note howeverthat a fee may apply. Otherwise you could try writing to the local parish priest for possible assistance as the originals are still mostly kept at a local level.

Most surviving Church of Ireland records are still held by the local clergy, although some are in the National Archives of Ireland and others are in the Representative Church Body Library in Dublin. Here are their websites: http://www.nationalarchives.ie/ and http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42

Lists of these surviving registers can also be found at the National Library of Ireland.

You could also check for record of the family in the land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century. There are two:

The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp

    and Griffith?s Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/

Slater?s Commercial Directory of Ireland 1846 mentions a Patrick Kelly on CHurch Street under the section for Tailors, I wonder is it possible that this could be your Patrick and that the surname was misspelled?
