I have been reseaching my family history from the Skibbereen and Baltimore area in southwest County Cork.  I am focused on about 25 surnames - main surnames from this area are:  Walsh, Minihane, Connolly, McCarthy, Collins, Leonard, O'Brien, Hegarty, and Sheehan.

Would like to make contact with others doing research in the Skibbereeen and Baltimore area - particularly on these surnames.

Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you.

Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Please make sure you link anyone else in your family who is interested in their Irish heritage to our site - and indeed anyone else you know of Irish heritage.

    Kind regards,

  • I have traced ancestry back to a Julian Minihan, b. bef. 1780, d. after 1798, married to a Henry Casey. All of my sourcing really comes from their son Henry who was baptised 24 Jun 1798 at Cork & Ross (Roman Catholic) of Bantry. That'all I have on the line so far, though.

I know that their son Henry married a Mary Hurley (b. abt. 1798, d. aft 1818) and that her maternal Haplogroup was I3a. But again that information I have only because of their names listed on their daughter's baptism which states she was born in Balnashruhara and baptised at Creagh & Sullon  19 Jul 1818. Married Marcus Coppinger 4 Jun 1844 a Cork &Ross (Roman Catholic) of Skibbereen & Rath.
