On 31st March 1850 James Meara was married to Mary Brennan at St Peter's Church Athlone. I think James Meara is an ancestor of my wife, her maiden name is O'Mara. James Meara's address at the time was 4 Dragon Athlone (this seems a strange, unusual address). Mary Brennan's address was 35 Chapel Lane Athlone. There is no record of James Meara's father and Mary Brennan's father was Matthew Brennan. I would like any information on both James and Mary and their families. They had a daughter, Mary Ann, christened in Athlone in 1851.

At the time of the 1861 England census the family was in England

You may want to contact the church to see if they have any records which would help your research.

  • David,

4 Dragon should read 4th Dragoons, Jame`s regiment.   The 4th Light Dragoons were stationed at Athlone Barracks in 1850.   Jame`s address would have been Victoria Barracks, Athlone.  I attach a copy of the marriage entry from St. Peters.
