  • Hi Nancy,

    Thank you for your message.

Civil registration began in Ireland in 1864 so you should be able to find Annie?s birth record in civil records. Civil records are available from the General Register?s Office.  Here is their website:

    http://www.groireland.ie/research.htm

You can search the indexes to these records up to 1958 online at:

    https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1408347

You could also try looking at church records for more information. Most Catholic records are held locally so you may need to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance. One website that you may find useful is the Irish Times where they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. It also shows you where copies of the records are available. For Elphin parish, follow this link:

Have you tried looking for record of the family in the 1901/1911 census records?

    http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/

You could also check earlier in the century for record of Conroy?s in Roscommon in Griffith?s Valuation:

Some other websites that you may find useful are:

The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx

Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching, including religious denomination, emigration information, occupations etc. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

  • Hello Nancy, I noticed you were researching the Conroy history. Have you managed to get any details of a John Conroy marrying a Catherine King in 1946? or do you have any details of what siblings they had? I am trying to trace my father (John Raymond Conroy born 4th January 1946) he would have been one of those siblings, but he left to go to America to stay with one of his sisters. I have John Raymonds birth certificate, along with John and Catherines Wedding certificate. They lived in Elphin when they married, but I don't know any details after they got married. Are you able to help?
