Hi, I am visiting co Roscommon in June this year (2024) and I am trying to find some information about Malachy Fallon and Bridget Mulligan.(my great great grandparents. I know they were farmers in Ballyglass (Griffiths valuation - Robert H Gunning) Their children were Catherine 1842-1921,Patrick Joseph 1849 -1932, Bridgidam 1851, John 1855, Malechiam 1862, Michael.  I can't find their marriage notice or birth notices for Malachy and Bridget and parishes where married , baptised.  I have their death notices Malachy died 9.7.1883 and Bridget 10.3.1896 both died at Ballyglass. Malachy was 71 when he died so his birth would have been around 1812? Bridget was 80 when she died so her birth around 1816? The children's birth/baptism notices were at Killinvoy Parish.

I am assuming that maybe Knockcroghery (St John's ?) Also where they are buried ? I would love to visit their gravesites. I have been on Find A Grave and not having any luck locating them. Any information would be greatly appreciated I will be staying at Ballyglass during my travels.

    The records for Knockcroghery (Killinvoy) RC parish start in July 1841. There are no records for 1858-1859. Likely the marriage was before July 1841. There are Malachy Fallon and Bridget Mulligan baptismal records in St. Peter's Athlone church around 1820 and earlier but that parish is two parishes to the south of Knockcroghery and those records are likely for other individuals.

    Checked the Griffiths Valuation for 1855 and I assume Loughlin Fallon in Ballyglass was your Malachy?

    Roots Ireland transcription shows a Malachy Fallon baptised 16 Feb 1862, RC parish of Knockcroghery. Parents - Malachy Fallon & Brigid Mulligan. Sponsors - Patrick Murray & Eleanor Murray.

  • thank you for your input into my message. Yes I think the Loughlin Fallon in Griffiths Valuation is Malachy Fallon. Although I did find a Malachy Fallon and Michael and John Mulligan - farmers on the Griffiths Valuation as well. Michael and John Mulligan might be related to Bridget Mulligan?

    Malachy Fallon b 1862 and Bridget b 1851 are two of their children.

    Should I follow up on the two from St Peters Athlone parish? 

    I will definitely fill in the form for when we are visiting Ballyglass and areas . I would love to meet someone for some assistance.

  • Hi Roger,

    I know I am grabbing at straws, it just is so hard to get certain document clarification for some people. I suppose you are suggesting that people didn't move too far in those times. Both of these people were born pre 1820 , so will have to assume that they came from the Killinvoy  (Knockcroghery)  parish.
