Delighted to have found this website, though typically, no info for the parish I am keen to learn more on!  However, I'm sure that will come.  My G-Grandfather Thaddeus/Timothy Lavin was born in 1851 in the parish of Killukin.  His father was Edward Lavin, a farmer and his mother Margaret Corrigan (or similar). Timothy emigrated to England sometime before 1881 (where he frist appears on the census) yet we know little about his Irish origins, other than he came from a place near Carrick on Shannon.  I think Timothy had a number of brothers but we have not been able to locate or really verify any of them or their possible descendants.

We would truly love to know if we have any relatives out there - whether in England, the US or if any stayed in Ireland.

I've had a good look round the area on google-earth and it does look a lovely spot, though very different from when there must have been hundreds of people living there in the 19th century. I understand a RC church was built in Croghan in 1880s, but I do wonder where RC baptisms would  have taken place prior to this.

Looking forward to .

  • Hi

    Thank you for your message.

I have forwarded your request for assistance to a volunteer in Co Roscommon who may be able to offer some advice.

In the meantime for information on resources in Co Roscommon you might try:

    http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/browse/

Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

Please be patient - as our programme has only begun to rollout across the island of Ireland and volunteers in some areas may not yet be organized.

    Kind regards,
