I am looking for my GR Grandparents Thadeum [Timothy ] and Margaret Kelly Hurly.   I have traced Thadeum

and his father Thomas

to the name of Karty and his mother Catherine Hurly.    Margaret is buried in the Sligo cemetery in WI and no trace of Thadeum.   On her tombstone it reads Ogulla Parish Roscommon Ire.   Delores Fargen

Could you provide more details? It appears Timothy (last name Karty or Hurly?) and his wife Margaret emigrated to America? Do you know what year? What year did Margaret die in Wisconsin? Did Thomas emigrate? Any other facts?

  • I don't know the year they came to America  or the ship but think they came through Canada.  probably during the famine years.   Margaret died in July 1868 and I am sure her maiden name was Kelly but can't find a obituary in Wisconsin .    I doubt Thomas and Catherine  came to America but not sure .   Timothy was born in 1802 in Westmeath Ireland  and baptised at ST Peter and ST Pauls catholic church .   thank you for your quick respond.   I am the last of generation and would like to find the answers   Delores Fargen

I checked the 1832 Tithe's Applotment Books www.nationalarchives.ie for Thomas Hurly/Hurley in Co. Roscommon and Co. Westmeath. I found two records but they were not close to Athlone (location of Sts. Peter and Paul Church) or Ogulla parish. You can check it out also. I would believe that Thomas was likely deceased by 1855 when the Griffiths Valuation survey was conducted in that area. Another site to check is www.rootsireland.ie  It is a pay site but you may find something of interest. Sorry I could not help further.
