Hi

I am trying to find members of the Casey family that are related to my 2x Great Grandfather Denis Casey b1858 in Erra, Roscommon.  He emigrated to Australia in 1877, married and settled in Australia.  I believe his father was Edward Casey married to a Catherine Casey and they had 8 children one of which is Denis.  I believe the childrens names are Bridget, Anne, Margaret (also came to Australia), Peter, Michael, John and Maria/Marie.

I would appreciate any help in tracking down Casey's from this line.

Thanks

As I'm sure you are aware, reseaching Caseys in Erra townland is complicated by the number of families with this surname. I looked at the 1901 census for Peter, Michael and John Casey assuming that not all of the sons emigrated. There were actually four Peter Caseys but they were all older: 60, 66, 73 and 77. there were no John Caseys listed but there were two Michael Casey, one 40 and the other 60. The 1901 census for the younger Michael Casey is below and you will notice an unmarried sister Anne living with him and the second son is Edward.

Do you have any information on the age order of the children? Was Denis one of the younger children? Do you know who else emigrated?

  • Hi Roger

Thanks for helping out.. the ages of the children are

Bridget b abt 1843; Anne b abt 1844; Margaret b abt 1854; Peter b abt 1857; Denis b abt 1858; Michael b abt 1961.  I can only assume that John and Marie/Maria were born somewhere between Anne 1844 and Margaret 1854.  To my knowledge Denis and Margaret emigrated to Australia (both married in Australia).  Margaret married a Patrick Casey and they had 5 children none of which married.  Denis (my 2x great grandfather) married in Australia and I have info on their side but not much else.

I think one of the males went to America not sure which one.

    Anyway I hope this helps.

    Regards

    John
