Looking for information on Catherine, my great grandmother, born in the the early to mid 1870's. I have parish name(s) of Carrican and/or Shannon or a combination of the two, in County oscommon, but get no results when I search for those parish names. She emigrated to the New York City area in the 1890's. Help! Please.
Thank you, Mike Murphy

I guess I have that backwards, as Roscommon seems to be the parish.

Mike-you may be looking for Carrickonshannon, which is actually in County Leitrim and next door to County Roscommon.

Mike:
As Liam indicated Carrick on Shannon is in Kiltoghert civil parish in Co. Leitrim. I found two O'Brien families in the 1901 census in Carrick on Shannon (below). Do you know her parents names? There is an 1868 civil birth index record and an 1876 record in the Carrick on Shannon registration district.

Liam and Roger, thank you so much! I'll poke around a bit on the links and see what I find. I don't know the parents' names for Catherine. I tried pulling marriage records from the State of New York for the mid 1890's. The number of same names that came up was a bit overwhelmeing and not helpful.

Liam, Thanks! I have reached out to a cousin in NY to see if my Aunt, granddaughter of Catherine, might have any records lying around. My Aunt is in her 80's and a bit forgetful. If that doesn't work I'll try going to the state records for NY. Copies of their records can be a bit pricey.
