Looking for information on the family of the Cunninghams who emigrated to Nova Scotia, Canada prior to 1765.

We do know the following from the book The Cunningham Family of Antigonish, Nova Scotia compiled by Leonard Cunningham (the Preface is dated November 2, 1929):  three brothers, John, Richard (born September 14, 1748) and Michael (born February 19, 1756) emigrated.  It is believed that their mother's name was Elizabeth/Elisabeth (maiden surname unknown) and that there were also three sisters, Jane, Magdalen and Mary.  Father's name is not known and nothing more concrete is known about Elizabeth, Jane, Magdalen or Mary.

We are interested in corresponding with anyone who might be descended from relatives of this family who remained in Ireland when these people emigrated in the mid 1700s.

I joined the Facebook open group Cunningham family, Relatives and friends History group, the family home place is Co Roscommon, Ireland but have not obtained any additional information on our particular line of the family yet.

Any correspondence is greatly appreciated.  Joanne

  • Thank you very much for the information regarding the Roscommon Heritage and Genealogy Centre.  I will definitely contact them with my query.

Like so many, we have come up against the proverbial Brick Wall regarding this particular line of our family tree.  All we can do is continue trying to search the family out and someday, maybe, there will be someone out there who can connect us to older data.
