    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Civil registration for births did not start until 1864 so church records are your only source, however, not all RC parishes in Co. Roscommon have records back to the 1840s.

I checked Roots Ireland and there were no Michael Dolan baptismal records with father Thomas and mother Mary in the 1840s. There were no Michael Dolan records at all in 1845-1846. There were two records in 1843 but the mother was not Mary.

    Any other clues?

  • That's all the information that I have on his life in Ireland.  I paid the Roscommon Hereitage and Genealolgy Center to research County Roacommon, but they could find nothing.  I got the names of his parents off his marriage in Lowell, Ma, USA.  I have a feeling that maybe he had done something illegal and was shipped to the USA.  Any information you have would be greatly appreciated,  Thank You  Lorraine Dolan

I looked at the 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of households lists and there were too many Thomas Dolans to be able to narrow down the possible locations. Also, we don't know if he survived the Famine and was leasing land in 1855.

Can I suggest that you consider autosomal DNA testing. Possibly you will have a match with someone who has more info on the Dolans in Ireland.
