  • Dave:

I checked Roots Ireland and searched from 1843-1853 for a baptismal record for George but got no record. A good number of churches do not have records back to that time period and possibly George was baptized in one of those parishes. Did he come over with his family or by himself as an adult? Do you know his parents names or any siblings?

  • Hello Dave,

It is unclear from your comment the amount of research you have done to date and how you have established Ireland as a place of birth.

My initial search would suggest that he was born in Canada to parents Thomas and Ellen Sullivan Flanagan and died Aug. 8 1910 in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri.

If there is contradictory evidence as to his place of birth it is necessary to explore both. If indeed he was born in Canada, sourcing an obituary for 1910 , census returns to establish when he or his family settled in Missouri and a marriage certificate for him to obtain other salient details.

If your searches identify siblings of George, researching these may turn up information that may be omitted from records for George. Ideally an older sibling not born in Canada but Ireland would indicate an Irish marriage and possible baptism for this older sibling.

At the end of the day a little more work on your part in North America will be required before you begin to make a connection to Ireland.
