I have an ancestor Elizabeth Maloney born ca 1828, Roscommon, Ireland. I don't know anything concerning her parents. I know that Elizabeth had 3 sister's, Mary ca 1830, Catherine ca 1826 and Bridget. Elizabeth, Mary and Catherine all married prior to leaving via Cork Ireland on the 21st July 1851 aboard the "Blenheim 4" for Hobart Town, Tasmania, which Bridget was also aboard. Elizabeth Maloney married James Leary from Cappagh, County of Limerick. Arriving in Hobart Town, Elizabeth had 6 children. Elizabeth died on the 9th Sept 1866 at the General Hospital Hobart, Tasmania of Heart Disease. I am looking for any information concerning Elizabeth.

I looked on Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie for baptismal records for the four sisters with no success. Same with marriage records for the three sisters. They must have come from a parish whose records start later than 1850. There are a few Maloney/Moloney/Malony/Molony records in the Tithe listings www.titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie  There are also about 11 Maloney records in the Griffiths mostly in Tibohine civil parish. www.askaboutireland.ie

Catherine Maloney born c1826 left Ireland for Tasmania on "Blenheim" arriving 31st October 1851 with her husband Luke Finn and sisters Eliza Leary and Mary Kennedy and their husbands who served on Blenheim 4 as convict guards. Catherine Maloney (Finn) died in New Zealand in 1903 and her parents were Walter Malone (soldier) and Mary Malone (nee Quigley as recorded on her death certificate. I am a descendant of Catherine and Luke Finn and have more information on that family. I am looking for more information on Walter Malone and Mary Quigley if anyone can help.

  • My great greatgrandparents were Thomas Finn and Catherine Maloney. Their son Thomas Finn married Sarah Gregory, child of convict Bridget O'Brien. I'm interested in Catherine's ancestry and can help others with her descendants who remained in Tasmania. After her husband's drowning in the Huon River, her sons Luke and Thomas were sent to the Orphans School in Hobart, Tasmania, where Thomas is likely to have met my great grandmother Sarah Gregory.
