Can anyone help please. I,ve been searching for years for info: regarding my grt, grt, grandparents Owen & Anne. Owen was born around 1815 & Anne 1825. I know they moved from Ireland with there 3 children to Scotland as I have them in 1851 Census, while living in Scotland they had another 3 children. I have them in 1861 Census living in Liverpool were they remained. I would love to know more about there lives in Ireland but have never been able to find them, any help please as to what I can do  or where to look.

Thank you.

  • Madeline:

Many of the RC parishes in Co. Roscommon do not have records available back to 1815-1825 and even 1830s and 1840s. I looked at Roots Ireland www.rootsireland.ie and could not find a baptismal record for Owen or a marriage record for Owen and Anne.

Owen would have been too young to be included in the Tithes listings and he left Ireland before the 1855 Griffiths Valuation.

At this point, I would try to locate a death record for Owen in Engish records to see if his parents names are included. Same for Ann. We could then see what is available in the Tithe records which for Roscommon are from 1832-1834. There are a total of 16 ODonnell or O'Donnell entries in the Tithes. The Tithe records can be found at www.titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie

Let me know if you have questions.

  • Thank you Roger. Death Certificates here in England do not included parents names so I think its going to be very hard to find anymore info: but thanks for replying.
