My 2nd great grandfather, Andrew Kenney, was born around 1831, perhaps in County Roscommon. Does anyone recognize this image - does he resemble anyone in a family in Roscommon or surrounding counties? If so, please email me at JeremyLeeKenney@gmail.com

Background: Andrew left Ireland during the Famine, landing in New York around 1850. He married Ellen Neely in around 1856 and moved to Jersey City, Staten Island, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. His children in birth order are: Mary (1857), Sarah (1859), Thomas (1861), Andrew (1862), Joseph (1864), Catherine (1869) & William (1871).

Andrew Kenney - DOB 1831 (Perhaps County Roscommon)

  • Dear Jeremy

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I had a look on rootsireland.ie but there doesn?t seem to be a baptism record for an Andrew Keney/Kenny in Co. Roscommon around the 1830s. There are some matches (9 in all) in other counties between 1825 and 1835, the most relevant in Co. Westmeath, parts of which are near Co. Roscommon. However, it would be difficult to know for sure, which, if any of these are relevant or indeed ?your? Andrew.

It may be the case, unfortunately, that he was born in a parish and at a time that predates the parish records. Have you already tried searching ancestry.com for instances of the family name on their message boards or public member trees?

    Best wishes

  • Thank you for the reply Claire! The Roscommon connection was via a Y-string DNA search of families living near the Kenney's over generations, which were a close match to my DNA, so it's a long shot. I have an extensive Ancestry.com tree, if you'd like to see, I'd be happy to send you an invitation. Do you have an Ancestry.com username or an email where I can send an invite?

    Thanks again,

    Jeremy
