Good day all,

I am currently researching my ancestry and could really use some local expertise.  Here is what I have thus far on the Ireland side...

 

Peter DONLON born 14 OCT 1844 - his US death certificate states he was born in Roscommon.

Also on his death certificate - his mother's name looks like Mary DEVINE or DEVON and his father was also a PETER.  To my knowledge, they (parents) did NOT immigrate.

it looks like he arrived to NYC approximately 1863 and soon thereafter, fought in the US Civil War.

He married Bridget FANNON (allegedly, also from Roscommon...dad Patrick) in New Jersey on 29 NOV 1866.  It is unknown whether or not they knew one another in Ireland.

They moved to Antioch California and raised their family.

    I took a look at the Roots Ireland indexes and could not locate a baptismal record for a Peter Donlon from 1839-1849. No luck with Bridget Fannon either for that time period but I did find a record for a Bridget in 1836 in the Kilbride RC church which I assumed was too early. The fathers name was Thomas.

    I looked at the 1855 griffiths Valuation head of household lising for Co. Roscommon. It would appear that the Donlon/Donlan/Donolans came from the southern part of Co. Roscommon in either Cam, Creagh or Moore civil parishes. The Fannons came from the center of the county primarily in Kilbride parish which ties inot the baptismal record that I located above.

    The only Peter Donlon (or varitant) in the Griffiths was a Peter Donalan. The townland was Glentaun in Creagh parish.No way to know if this is your ancestor.
