I have done a considerable amount of research on my Finn Family line from Lisduff, Grallagh & Cloonfad.  A large amount of that research is presently viewable from my online database at https://thecore.com/efinn/gene/

I have recently undertaken a project to change from individual html web pages for each ancestor member to using a database for the individual records.  This is a project which is moving along rapidly and is bringing additional records online daily.

I would be interested in communicating with any other researchers that are interested in Finn genealogy from this area or researches who may have genealogical interest in the area, as my Finn ancestor's seem to have marriage connections with so many of the other families in this relatively small community in county Roscommon.  The above URL web page has a link at the top of the page that will display all of the unique surnames that have married into my Finn lineage and are presently in my database...needless to say that list is growing daily as new records get added.

I can be contacted at efinn@thecore.com

  • I'd be interested if you have anything on the Barretts of Grallagh!

    Hi Red (Rua),

I am sorry to say that so far in my research I have not come across a Finn/Barrett connection, however I can tell you that I have come across the surname Barrett on many occassions while searching for BMD records, so there is a good presence of Barretts in most of the record sources that I have been using.  Just a quick check of the Griffiths Valuation shows two Barretts (Martin & James) as land occupiers in Grallagh, I would assume you most likely are already aware of them.  I have recently been involved with some rather intense searching of the RC Parish records on the NLI site in an effort to update the data for my own ancestor records.  I will do my best to keep Barrett in my mind as I scan these records and will post here if I find anything.  Good luck with your research.

    Hi Rua,

This week I have been doing a fair amount of research at https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie collecting Callaghan data that is a very important surname in my Finn genealogy.  I told you that I would keep a watchful eye for any Barrett data that I might encounter...well what I found I wasn't expecting, Looks like your Margaret Barrett was married to a Pat Callaghan and had a daughter Bridget on 6 Aug 1874 in the townland of Lisduff (adjacent to Grallagh)...see the attached record.

    Welcome to the family cousin!

    Rua,

In the attached GRO birth record, record #145 (James Finn) is my grandfather's half brother (same father different mother).  Notice record #144 just above James.  Barret (Barrett?) in Rakeery (RathKeery) once again an adjacent townland to Grallagh.

Wow... thanks for that. I had no idea there were Barretts in Rathkeery and Lisduff as well.

    Rua,

In the attached file #140 is one of my Finns.  #143 appears to be another of your Barrett's this time in Eden.
