Bridget      45

Mary         20

Edward     16

Martin       14

Bridget      12

Michael     10

Annie         8

Thanks

The census you found was actually the 1901 census. Here is the family in the 1911 census.

Don't be concerned that the parents ages jumped more than 10 years. Ages in the 1901 census were generally understated.

Michael and Bridget were married in 1876. Below is the civil marriage index record. You can get a copy of the record from the General Register Office for around 4 euros. The record will show the names of the fathers of the bridge and groom and where the bride and groom were living in 1876. If you want to get a copy let me know and I will forward instructions.

Also here is the 1858 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Achonry parish. You will notice an Edwrad and John Kilroy in Sandyhill townland. One of them is likely the father or grandfather of Michael. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/sligo/achonry.htm

  • the two census returns for reference :

Kilroy household, Sandyhill townland - 1901
Kilroy household, Sandyhill townland - 1911

Michael snr is a farmer, and all the family are listed as born Co. Sligo. On the 1911 return they state they had 9 children and all are still alive at the time, and are married about 35 years - so c1876.

There's a good possible match for their marriage in the registration district for hat area, i.e. Tobercurry/Tubbercurry as follows :

    Name:     Michael Kilroy
    Record Type : Marriage
    Registration Year :  1876
    Registration district:    Tobercurry
    Volume:     4 / Page : 579

A Bridget Lundy appears with the same index references to a possible cross-match. You can order research cert from the GRO using these references. These cost € 4 and will give you further details on the marriage such as date, location, places of residence for bride and groom, their father's names and occupations...  reply here if you require notes on ordering these.
