Hi My name is John Greenane

I am looking for information about my Great Uncle James Greenane who is mentioned in various Court listings as a Police Constable with the RIC.

In 1884 there is a mention of him in Ballina Mayo and in 1886 in Ballymote Sligo.

What I am hoping to find out is if he married in these areas

Any help in this matter would be much appreciated

Best Regards

John

  • Hi John
I searched the marriage records on www.rootsireland.ie/ for James Greenane in all counties from 1864 to 1904. There were none in Sligo and several from Mayo but none is from Ballina or has occupation policeman.
(Annoyingly many records don't have any occupation listed!)

findmypast has a Kilkenny Petty Sessions record from 1895 for him but I couldn't find a marriage record there either.

Of course the marriage usually took place in the bride's parish so one of the Mayo ones could still be him.
