I've been unable to identify the parish from which my gg-grandmother Anne Sheran (aka Sheeran) came.  Her death record (1933, Chicago Illinois) states that she was born in County Roscommon in May 1857.  She married my gg-grandfather James O'Boyle in Chicago in Oct 1872.   I believe her parents were Patrick Sheeran and Bridget Kaveney.

Any info greatly appreciated.

    I searched for Ann Sheeran baptismal records on the Roots Ireland indexes for Co. Roscommon. There were four possible records but none had the father as Patrick. I searched back to 1845 since I assumed that she was born prior to 1857 otherwise she would have been 15 at her marriage in 1872.

    I did check the 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Co. Roscommon and found two possible locations where your Sheerans were from assuming Patrick was listed in the Griffiths.

  • Hi,

    I also have ancestors who lived at Tawnytaskin, Boyle, Roscommon.  One of my great grandmother's sisters (Anne Coleman b abt 1853) married a William Sheeran/in and they lived at Drum, Boyle.  His father I think lived at Deerpark.  Not sure who the Patrick Sheeran was who lived at Tawnytaskin.  Anyway, if you have had a DNA test on ancestry or if you uploaded the results on Gedmatch or FamilyTreeDNA, I have some relatives who are Sheeran from Anne and William as well as another person who is from a different Sheeran from Sheegorey Boyle and they are on ancestry DNA match and maybe that could help.

    Boyle has very good baptismal records for that time period but I have found a few relatives to be missing in the indexes.

    I do see some on ancestry who have trees for your Anne Sheeran.  Also some with trees for Sheeran from Termonbarry, Roscommon, Ireland.

    Use the resources on this site to help you figure out where a Sheeran and Kaveny intersect. https://www.johngrenham.com/c_parish/c_parish.php?county=Roscommon&surn…;

    Also, I looked on Findmypast.com.  There are a lot of Patrick Sheeran's in the Petty Sessions in the time frame.  Maybe just sign up for 1 month and look at these to get clues.  Also, this is a lot of work but look at the baptismal records yourself.  https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0548  See if there are other children from this couple.

    If you can, look at the baptismal records and marriage records at Old St. Pat's in Chicago.  See who the sponsors were and witnesses to the wedding.  This may give you some additional people to look at.  She didn't just show up - she had friends, relatives or somebody from back home.

    Good luck.  If you have the ancestry DNA, let me know.
