Hi! Thank you for this wonderful site for reaching out to the parishes. I am researching my family (Quinlan). My ancestor, John Quinlan lived on High Street in the townland of Lisheen at lot 10 (Griffiths Valuation). Two of his sons stayed in Lisheen. His son John continued to live at Lot 10 until about 1913 when he died (do not know the exact date as not listed in GRO or on rootsireland). I could tell that he was gone by 1913 as there was a new name listed for the Valuation in that year. His mother Mary Quinlan (nee Quigley) was living with him at the time of the 1901 census (also do not know when she passed away). John’s wife Harriet Quinlan passed away on Dec 29, 1909. They had a daughter Mary Kate Quinlan, who was born in Dec 1893. I do not know what ever became of her after the 1911 census. The other son that lived in Lisheen was Thomas Quinlan, who lived on High Street on Lot 12 until his death around 1908-9 (his death was not listed in GRO or on rootsireland). Thomas wed Maria Cahill and had 3 children (Timothy Aug 1, 1899, John April 5, 1904 and Mary Rose Aug 10, 1908). After the death of Thomas Quinlan, Maria married William Brereton on June 13, 1910. They all were residing at Lot 12 during the 1911 census. I don’t know what became of the children. Is there anyone left of either family still living in the area? I also would like to know when those listed above died, since I cannot find them in GRO or rootsireland. I would appreciate very much what info that you could find or any advice. Thank you very much. Joanne Kellar

  • Hi Joanne,

I've made contact with the person who is currently living on land that was owned by the Quinlans.  His name is Charley Tighe & he has asked me to ask you do the names Danial Quinlan or Bridgit Deegan mean anything to you or the townsland name Feigh.

Charley & myself will continue to follow up your query.

    Regards

    Marguerite
