My mother is in possesion of numerous letters sent from James Mockler (Ayle-parish Cappawhite) to his brother Richard Mockler in Ashland, WI. Letters range from late 1890 to early 1900's. Richard's wife was Honnora O'Neill born (Briarfield/Druminda-parish Cappawhite). I also have letters Honora's sister Mary O'Neill and her friend Margaret Butler Moran. Honora and Margaret were teachers before Honnora came with her husband to Wisconsin. There are also many letters from Mother Superior Rose De Lima (Ellen Mockler, sister  of James and Richard). She joined the Holy Family Convent in 1881 and spent most of her holy life in Ceylon. Did not know if this group was interested in copies of these letters. There is also a letter from Reverend James Power Treacy to Richard Mockler chronicling the connection between the Treacy's of Phillipstown and the Mocklers of Ayle. Reverend Treacy's family owned or stll owns High Park House in Cappawhite.....I have been able to use the letters to expand my Cappawhite family, but would love to share if they would help others expand theirs.

  • Hi Janet,

I am wondering if we have a connection and the Mary O'Neill you mention is my GGG Grandmother. If you think there is I would love to have a copy of the letter that Mary wrote. My email is greg_monaghan23@hotmail.com

  • Hello Greg and Janet. While the three of us do seem to be related back to Cappawhite, it would seem that the Mary in question is different simply based on the time. The letters are from the later part of the century and under the name O'Neill; Mary would have been a Dwyer then. Perhaps it is another Mary in the family but not our shared GGG grandmother.

I am a distant cousing to both of you so I assume you are distant cousins as well, perhaps through the O'Neill family. I have written to Janet in the past via Ancestry.com as she is a DNA match to me and I located her through message boards about Cappawhite. Mary O'Neill and John Dwyer are my GGG grandparents as well (My sister has connected with your cousin JC who is also a DNA match to us). Patrick was my Grandmother's grandfather so I have first hand information about him and his brother Michael.

It would be nice to see if we could build on the connection to the O'Neills. I am also interested in seeing the letters and gleaning aby information regarding the O'Neills. The only information that I have that might help is that John O'Neill and Biddy Dwyer are listed on Patrick's baptismal record. Presumably these are John Dwyer and Mary' ONeill's siblings.

    Best regards,

    Susan
