My great-great-grandfather, Michael Dooling (Dowling?) was born on 19 Oct 1837. (I believe to Jacob and Catherine Dooling, baptised on 18 Dec 1837 in Clogheen Parish).

Michael Dooling married Margaret Lockman and emigrated to America around 1858.

I can't locate any information regarding Michael Dooling's parents, nor Margaret Lockman's (b. 1836, Cashel, Ireland) family, except for what I believe to be a record of Michael's baptism. I wish I had known this information before I visited Waterford in 2002, perhaps I could have made the drive during my visit!

I'm not certain about when & where Michael wed Margaret Lockman, nor when either actually emigrated, (together or separately). It's been extremely challenging to find any family information for this time period. My limited knowledge of regional history, despite several conversations during a visit to Waterford have yeilded very limited results.

I do believe that other members of the family emigrated to America, although at different times.

I'd greatly appreciate any assistance!

Thank you, Michael Dooling, Carrollton, Texas

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I looked at the parish register  http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0116   and the father's name was James not Jacob (the register is in Latin and Jacobus is James). Did not see any baptismal records for siblings.

I did not see any Doolings in the area in the 1850 Griffiths Valuation nor did I see any Lockman records either. I also could not find a marriage record for the couple so I'm assuming they met and married in America.

Forgot to add that you may want to consider autosomal DNA testing. You also qualify to take the Y-DNA test which tracks your male line (father, his father, his father, etc.). I find the Y-DNA test to be more long-term meaning 200years back or more.
