I am looking for information on my great grandmother Ann Hogan, born April 1837, daughter of Thomas Hogan and Dora Pardan. A Tipperary Heritage response to my inquiry years ago said that the family was most likely from Dorrha/Lorrha. Ann left Ireland for America about 1849-50, traveling with her four year old cousin Daniel Flanagan. She arrived in Paterson New Jersey. If anyone has any information or suggestions as to where to search, I would appreciate them! Thank you very much. Marian McCabe

  • Have you tried checking immigration records or ship manifests from that time period? They might provide more details about Ann Hogan's journey to America and could potentially lead you to more information about her.

  • Marian:

The RC church records for Lorrha/Doorha parish start in 1829. I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not find Anne's baptismal record or records for any possible siblings. I expanded the search to all of Co. Tipperary and still did not find a record.

I did look up the surname Pardan in the 1850 Griffiths Valuation for Co. Tipperary. There were three records that came up including two in Dorrha civil parish. Perhaps that is why the Heritage Center suggested Lorrha/Dorrha. There was a John Parden in Killenaule townland in Dorrha civil parish. Also, an Anne Pardon in Redwood townland Dorrha civil parish. Finally, a James Pardon in Croghan townland in Loughkeen civil parish.

Have you tested your DNA? You may come up with some matches to 3rd or 4th cousins who have more information on the family.
