I am looking for information on my great-great-great grandfather, John Dagg, born about 1794 at Stoneyacre, Modreent, Co. Tipperary. Married to Jane Jones about 1820 and emigrated to Canada after 1840 with wife and 9 children.

  • Hi -

unfortunately the records for Church Of Ireland, Modreeny do not start in www.rootsireland until 1845 - so  nothing came up there.

looking at the Tithes appoltment books: which are dated in the 1820s http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/results.jsp?…

There are some Daggs in the Ireland Records Extraction Database, Griffiths Valuation  on Ancestry.com

Also the migration of some of the Dagg families to Canada is covered in Irish Migrants in the Canada's by Bruce S. Elliott

there are Daggs buried in Modreeny graveyard-

Eliazabeth Dagg nee Guest died Sept 11 1811 aged 28

John Dagg, Lissenhall died jan 12th 1842 aged 53, his daughter Eliza July 12 1840 aged 26

Thomas Dagg of Pallas, 7 October 1888 aged 71, wife Anne 13 Jan 1880 aged 60

ellen Dagg 28 Aug 1905 aged 63 died Modreeny, her husband Thomas Dagg, at Lissrenny, Ardee 10 Aug 1925 aged 83 yrs

    No Jones in graveyard

  • William M. Dagg born 1829/30 in Modreeny, his daughter Sarah married my great grandfather Joseph Wall in1876.  William's parents were John Dagg and Sarah Hodgins.

  • I am a descendant of Richard Dagg. His daughter Elizabeth married Thomas Guest. From my knowlege the Daggs emigrated to Huntley, Carleton County Ontario Canada in 1837. (I believe in Modreeny)

Elizabeth & Thomas had a son Richard, who married Elizabeth Hutton.(my grt grt grandparents)

In my research I have Richard Dagg's children as: Elizabeth, Susan, Thomas, John (married Jane Ann Jones), Ellen, and Jane.

John and Jane lived in Claredon Township in Quebec.

Do any of these names ring a bell?

  • Above correction should read: The Guest family were also from Modreeny area, and Elizabeth Dagg and Thomas Guest were married in Modreeny.
