  • Hi Eamonn,

    Thanks for your effort.

I had hoped that, in the absense of a direct record, a connection with an existing tree may have been possible. Would you have any suggestions as to how this could be achieved? I'm new to this.

From sunny Ganmain in the Riverina of New South Wales with regards

    Les Fitzgerald.

  • Les,

My FitzGeralds are from Templetouhy, Tipperary - my 4x Great Grandfather Michael FitzGerald, married in 1805 in a nearby parish and was a Soldier and a Farmer.  He may be related to yours.  I think there may be a connection based off a possible family connection on the Fitgerald-Fanning Website which appears to list your Michael.  Have you considered conducting a yDNA test with FTDNA? They currently have a sale and the site has a FitzGerald yDNA Study Group with about 288 particpants.  Obviously not everyone is related but there is enough diversity that you may match to a group.  My Tipperary FitzGeralds have some unique yDNA markers and it will be quickly appraent if we share a common ancestor.

Thank you for any consideration given to this request.

  • Hi again Les,

I had a look at the National Library of Ireland's online Catholic parish records and found the marriage of Michael Fitzgerald and Peggy Connors on 2 Nov 1836. Michael was from Dunkerrin and Peggy (Margaret) was from Mancuram. So good of the priest to include place names! but very hard to read but I think the place is actually Moankeenane in Glenkeen Civil parish. Could be wrong. Have a look and see what you think. Witnesses were Rody and Thomas Connors.
