Great Grandma was a daughter of Tom Stapleton  of Roscrea. Margaret was born 1855? on her death certificate it has Mothers name Carey I am not sure if that was her Maiden name or Christian name. Margaret left Ireland about 1876 & left from Glasgow for New Zealand. Margaret married Robert Cunninghame & had 11 children in Wellington NZ. My Gran moved to Australia, hence I am an Australian.

I sent to NZ for Margaret's death certificate which is where I gained my information, she passed on the 11th June 1917. Last night I spent hours looking at websites & noticed that Tom is a popular name still for Stapleton's. I would be so grateful for any information you may find.

  • Hi Betty

There is a record of a baptism of a Margaret Stapleton with father Thomas 1856 on www.rootsireland.ie/. When the mother's surname Carey is added to the search criteria there is no  match however.

It costs to view the full record on rootsireland but it will gove you the parish and MAYBE the parents' names (some do / some don't).

However on ancestry.com there is a Stack family tree (owner Barry Stack) which has Margaret born 1853 in Roscrea Tipperary but I couldn't find the record on rootsireland. The tree is owned by Barry Stack & has pictures of her & Robert Cunningham so he might be a good source for you.

If you can't access ancestry I can email the page if the one above doesn't work.
