My great-grandmother, Mary Hayden, was born in Clonboo, Tipperary, 14 June 1862. On her baptismal certificate, it lists parents Daniel Hayden and Judith Bergin (she was known as Johanna). Daniel and Johanna were married 26 Jan 1859, in Templemore Parish, Tipperary. This is all I can prove about Daniel and Johanna, and would like to know more.

Shortly after I started looking for Johanna, I recieved the following information from 2 separate people in Australia: My Bergin family had a daughter Joanna who was "left in Ireland" when her parents and siblings arrived at Sydney, Australia in 1839, aboard the "Hero of Malown". This was noted on the passenger indent. We do not know why. She was 7 years. The family were "Bounty Immigrants" (paid 19 pounds an adult, 10 pounds for Danny 11, Mary 10 and Elizabeth 1, who was born in Liverpool. Maggie, my ancestor plus Ann, John and James were born in Australia. The father was Daniel Bergin of Roscrea, Tipperary, and the Mother was Margaret Russell, a native of Nenagh, christened in 1810. Daniel Bergin came from Roscrea Tipperary, and his parents were Daniel Bergin and Cathrine Maunsell and Daniel was a farmer. Margaret Russell came from Nenagh and her parents were John Russell and Betty (Elizabeth) Cleary and John was the a publican at Nenagh.

Interesting.

Johanna and Daniel Hayden's 1859 marriage information gives Johanna's address as Sorrell Hill. There is a Sorrellhill House in Templemore, a landed estate owned by the Gowans. That may have been where she lived/worked. It is in Rosecrea, where the people who might be her parents were married.

The only Bergin in Tipperary listed in Griffiths Valuation of 1857 is Mrs. Catherine Bergin in Nenagh, barony of Upper Ormond, parish Kilruane, townland/place name of Knockanabohilly. She rented from William Jackson. There is no direct indication that this is a relative of Johanna, but it may be her widowed grandmother, who Johanna would still be living with since she was not yet married. If this is the same Johanna Bergin as the Australian left-behind, this Catherine could easily be Daniel's mother, Catherine Maunsell.

Knockanbohilly is only about 8 km (5 miles) from Ballynalick, where Martin Hayden (Daniel Hayden's possible father) lived.

So you see I have a lot of supposition and not a whole lot of definites. Any help would be appreciated!
